Older cars' cigarette-lighter sockets typically only deliver 12V at low current; a USB adapter plugged into that socket can charge a phone, but usually slowly. Modern PD-enabled lighter adapters push well past that limit, reaching 30-45W in many cases.

Newer vehicles increasingly come with a built-in USB-C PD port as standard equipment; these usually deliver 18-30W and can fast-charge a phone directly without needing a separate adapter. Not every car's USB-C port supports PD though, so it is worth checking the owner's manual.

In-car wireless charging pads are convenient for keeping a phone in place while driving, but they are generally less efficient than wired charging; road vibration can also throw off the alignment between phone and pad, causing charging to start and stop repeatedly.

For long road trips involving multiple devices, phone, tablet, kids' gadgets, a multi-port car adapter is far more practical than a single-port solution. Charjett's car-series products aim to meet that need with a dual-port PD-enabled design.
